Comparison is the Thief of Joy

I love this quote by Theodore Roosevelt 🙌🏽

However, as much as everyone says “don’t compare yourself to anyone” it’s very hard not to, especially in the age of social media where people filter what they want you to see of their life. It is definitely something you have to train your mind to do, which isn’t easy.

This quote really resonated with me and was the first step in shifting my mindset to understanding that I am on my right journey and to stop telling myself “I should…”.

Since becoming aware of the demon word “should”, I noticed how often people use it when talking about themselves. For example, “I should have noticed that” or “I should have a partner” or “I should go out tonight” or “I should catch up with them”. My observations have lead me to understand that it only places a lot of unnecessary pressure on ourselves.

To me, it has opened up a whole new way of figuring out what I really want to do and to do it. I have now eradicated the word “should” from my self-talk and if I find myself saying/thinking it I immediately shut it down. Doing this has dramatically enhanced my happiness and strengthened my relationships (as I am spending more time with the people I want to see).

Give it a go yourself!

xx
